Former Mayor's charity appeal funds three life-saving defibrillators
A former St Albans Mayor has presented three life-saving defibrillators to the charity Community First Responders.
Councillor Teresa Heritage raised £4,760 for her charity appeal during her civic year as Mayor of St Albans City and District which ended in May this year.
The money has now been used to buy the defibrillators as well as two special manikins for use by trainers to simulate cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The manikins will be used at outreach events around the District.
Community First Responders are trained volunteers dispatched by ambulance services to provide vital care during the critical first minutes of a 999 medical emergency.
Cllr Heritage and Cllr Sue Griffiths, the former Deputy Mayor, handed over the defibrillators to Community First Responders local team leaders Monica Cherry and Vivienne Ford at the Civic Centre.
After the presentation, Cllr Heritage said:
The volunteers of the Community First Responders do fantastic work and I am proud to support such a worthwhile cause.
These three defibrillators and the training equipment we have donated will, I am sure, be a welcome addition to their resources.
I thoroughly enjoyed my year as Mayor, during which I supported the District's voluntary sector and met many of the community heroes who give up their spare time to help others.
My thanks go to them and to the many people who donated so generously to my charity appeal.
