Voting and elections

We run all local, regional and national elections that take place in the district. We also maintain the electoral register. We seek to manage these in a transparent, accountable and innovative way. Our aim is to make sure that local people are fully able to exercise their right to vote and to influence decisions that affect their lives.

View voting and election information, including how to vote, election notices and results.

Your vote matters – don’t lose it. To be able to vote at an election you need to be registered to vote.

Can’t get to your polling station? You can apply to vote by post.

Household Voter Registration Canvass

As part of our yearly household canvass, we are contacting residents by email and post to check that the details on the electoral register are correct.

If you have recently received an email from us with the title ‘Your vote matters – St Albans City & District Council’, this is a genuine communication from the Electoral Services department. Please follow the instructions in the message to keep your details on the electoral register up to date.

Business Improvement District (BID) ballot 2026

St Albans BID has been operating in the central area of St Albans since 2017 and is coming to the end of its second term, which runs until 31 March 2027.

For the BID to continue beyond this date, a ballot needs to be held on a new BID term. The ballot will take place between 7 September and 8 October 2026.

Community Governance Review (CGR)

We've recently completed a CGR to explore whether any changes should be made to parish and town council arrangements in the district.
