Electric vehicle charging points

The Council is receiving a lot of enquiries from residents wanting an electric vehicle charger installed in their street. The Council is not the Highway Authority, and has no powers to do this. The roads and footpaths across Hertfordshire are the responsibility of Hertfordshire County Council.
Hertfordshire County Council is in the process of considering whether or not to allow electric vehicle chargers to be installed in streets across Hertfordshire.
Residents may wish to talk directly to Hertfordshire County Council about this matter, or apply for an Electric Vehicle charger to be installed on their street. Such enquiries should be sent to evstrategy@hertfordshire.gov.uk

Trial of electric vehicle cross-pavement charging cable
licence scheme
If your home doesn't have off-street parking, a cross-pavement channel would allow you to charge your electric vehicle (EV) without trailing a charging cable across the pavement.
In partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, St Albans City and District Council is trialling an electric vehicle cross-pavement charging scheme, for more information please see Electric vehicle cross-pavement charging cable licence scheme.
This is being delivered as part of the Hertfordshire County Council Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund. Read more about this below.
Hertfordshire County Council Local Electric Vehicle
Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund
Hertfordshire County Council have been awarded £6,735,000 to deliver accessible and conveniently located charge-points countywide, especially for residents without access to off-street parking, through the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund.
The Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund is a UK government initiative aimed at:
• expanding the availability of electric vehicle charge-points across England
• helping people who depend on public charging to switch to an electric vehicle
Hertfordshire County Council recognise that you want more on-street charge-points near your homes, but on-street charge-points are more challenging to install, so locations are considered carefully.
A data-led approach is being taken involving local knowledge from districts and borough councils and the County Council are prioritising on-street chargers where:
• there are obvious gaps in existing provision and there is potential demand
• residents do not have access to driveways or off-street parking
• there are no nearby off-street car parks
• there are no existing publicly available charge-points within approximately 5 minutes walk or 400 metres
To find out more see Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund.

The current electric vehicle (EV) charging network can be seen on zapmap. View it online or download their smartphone app.

Depending on where you are in St Albans District, you might find charging points in public or business car parks, petrol stations and on-street parking bays. Check for maximum stay limits or additional parking fees.
