Tenancy Agreement Consultation

Help shape the future of your tenancy agreement

St Albans City and District Council is reviewing its tenancy agreement to ensure it is clear, fair and up to date.

This forms part of wider improvement work following the recent housing inspection by the Regulator of Social Housing.

Tenant engagement is a key priority for the Council and its senior leadership team. Residents are being invited to take part in this consultation to help shape the final version of the tenancy agreement.

This consultation will run from 15th June 2026 to 13th July 2026.

We are proposing updates to a number of areas within the tenancy agreement.

A summary of the proposed changes will be published under supporting documents when the consultation opens.

This will include a clear overview of the sections being amended and what those changes mean in practice.

The Council is reviewing the tenancy agreement to ensure it:

  • is clear and easy to understand
  • reflects current legislation and good practice
  • supports safe and well-managed homes and neighbourhoods
  • clearly sets out tenant and landlord responsibilities
  • is fair, consistent and transparent

Once the consultation closes:

  • all feedback will be reviewed and analysed
  • key themes will be identified
  • a consultation report will be produced
  • final decisions will be made by the Council
